PARALEGAL

Class Action Litigation Paralegal

Traber & Voorhees offers a unique opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic paralegal to join our staff. We are currently working on a number of complex class action matters and need assistance interviewing witnesses and managing client and class member contact.

We are looking for candidates with exceptional communication and organizational skills. Candidates must own a car and have car insurance. We prefer candidates who have experience performing interviews (e.g., of witnesses or potential clients), but all qualified candidates are welcome to apply. Given that many of the class members are monolingual Spanish-speakers, candidates must be fluent in spoken and written Spanish, and must be able to conduct interviews in Spanish.

Responsibilities:

Interview clients, class members and witnesses in person and over the phone. In-person interviews may require significant travel by car. Prepare notes of interviews for distribution to a litigation team. Convert interview notes into declarations to file with the Court, if necessary.

Manage communications to and from class members, including, for example, fielding calls from class members after class notice is sent out, helping to ensure that class members receive various notices, and assisting class members in making claims for damages. Assist lawyers in responding to discovery requests, such as requests for documents and interrogatories.

Translate documents (such as retainer agreements or discovery responses) from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English. create spreadsheets or databases to track information about class members or documents. Some clerical work, such as creating files, making photocopies, and scanning documents.

Qualifications:

Excellent communication and organizational skills. Previous paralegal experience or experience performing interviews preferred, but not required. Excellent computer skills, including familiarity with word processing programs, Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat. A college degree. Oral and written Spanish fluency. Must own a car and have car insurance.

Salary is commensurate with experience. The position is currently four days per week, but may grow to five days per week in the future. Each summer, Traber & Voorhees hires for at least two law clerk positions. Both summer law clerks for the summer of 2012 have already been hired.

Traber & Voorhees views the summer clerkship as an important opportunity to help train and mentor the next generation of promising civil and human rights attorneys. Law clerks are given significant responsibilities on a variety of aspects of the cases to which they are assigned and provided with opportunities throughout the summer to improve their writing, research, and advocacy skills.
